Farquhar Lighthouse Island

Location

Located in the east end of Callander Bay, Lake Nipissing, Geographic Township of Himsworth, Municipality of Callander, District of Parry Sound.

Origin of name

Named after the Farquhar family of the Scottish descent and for the historical lighthouse that is being replaced.

Flat Creek

Location

A creek at north end of Chandos Lake, Geographic Township of Chandos, Township of North Kawartha, County of Peterborough.

Origin of name

Origin is unknown however the area is fairly flat. Name likely arises because the creek joins Chandos Lake and the Crowe River, and reverses in the spring. Locally used name in some use for 80 years.

Fuzz's Rock

Location

Located within Otter Lake, Geographic Township of Ashby, Township of Addington Highlands, County of Lennox and Addington.

Origin of name

Named after a well known community member, nicknamed "Fuzz". Locally used name for over 60 years.

Grand Trunk Island

Location

Located within the St. Lawrence River (Lake St. Francis), Geographic Township of Lancaster, Township of South Glengarry, United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry.

Origin of name

Origin is unknown. The island was owned by the Grand Trunk Railway and was used as a hunting camp.

Kennedy Point

Location

Located on an island within the Madawaska River, Geographic Township of North Canonto, Township of North Frontenac, County of Frontenac.

Origin of name

Named for a local WWII veteran who served in the Navy. The family has been coming to the island for well over 80 years. Locally used name for 60 years.

Lac Chouinard

Located within the Geographic Township of Lowther, Distict of Cochrane.

Origin of name

Three generations of the Chouinard family lived there and made a significant impact on the development of the region. Locally used name for over 90 years.

Location

Located within the Bonnechere River, Geographic Township of Wilberforce, Township of North Algona Wilberforce, County of Renfrew.

Origin of name

The Menard name has been in existence in this area for 151 years, with many family members serving Canada in military conflicts.
